The design for the Preservation Book Cradle came from an invitation to develop ideas to hold safe books of a delicate construction during the process of digitization of their pages. The fundamental element of the cradle is the movement of one fixed platform and one movable platform relative to each other as the book’s pages are turned. These platforms bear the weight of the book and, by adjustment, remove stresses from the spine. The movement of these platforms is patented in the UK and the USA.
